Self Help
rodrick lopezSelf help
I love self help books. I enjoy the perspective. I often listen when I am walking my dog. When I hear something that gets my mind going I pause the book and let my mind take me on its own journey.
Sometimes I start my walk with the intention of listening to an hour of the book and 2 minutes in I pause and think about the few sentences I just listened to for an hour.
It's a form of walking meditation.
Side note: I pre-ordered this book and can't wait for it to be released on audio.
I've heard good things.
The first ever self help book I listened to led me a journey of a lifetime. If I never listened to this book I am not sure what my 20's would've looked like.
It really shifted my mindset and I contribute my drive to gain more knowledge directly from it!
I'll share it with as long as you promise not to laugh.
It's cheesy I know but I LOVED it.
Shoutout to the author for helping me through some tough times!
OH! I actually wrote a blog about the exact situation that this booked helped me overcome.

Picture of Xena and I hanging at coffee after a nice walk. She was a big part of why I started listening to books and she was a great dog! It's been almost a year since she passed away and I miss her big time.
*And yes I used to wear glasses. I got lasik. Best decision ever.
The blog I was referencing is here but hasn't posted yet! SOON!
Mobility
I've been posting in my stories recently videos of me squatting as deep as possible. What came from this I never would've guessed.
I've gotten 2 DM's in the last week asking me about said depth.
I couldn't believe it...
Maybe I live in a bubble but sense when is squatting deep in CrossFit even a topic of discussion?
First off - squatting deep is great as long as your position doesn't implode.
Also - I texted my much smarter friend to give us some insight.
From Matt (an expert in biomechanics)
"The glutes lengthen when the hips are in flexion so you literally get MORE recruitment if you squat deeper.
"If you intentionally reduce depth you're not able to take advantage of the stretch reflex."
Matt runs the best mobility program in the world AND his coaches course is available for continued learning on CrossFit.com
I have a Bachelors in Kinesiology and the course is far more in-depth than anything I did in college.
If you guys have movement or mobility questions be sure to send em over to Matt.
2014 vs. 2025

The 2014 picture was a competition called the reindeer games.
When the workouts came out I was NERVOUS because it had a workout with 20 shoulder to overhead at 155. (It was a partner comp so we figured 10 each).
For weeks we practiced and getting 5 reps was BRUTAL.
When we got to them - we strapped our belts on tight and got em done.
It was a huge win.
In 2025 - Feb 9th - I did a competition that had 135lbs shoulder to overhead. While lighter- yes, it was 60 total reps.
What's cool is we didn't even think twice when seeing it - my teammate and I knew we were going to do 30 and 30.
After the 60 reps we would perform 30 bar muscle ups.
I did 18 unbroken muscle ups.
There is nothing better than looking back and realising how far you've come.
Every year or so I scroll slowly through the pictures and videos on my phone.
I challenge you to do this: you'll realize just how far you've come even in the last few months.
Pressure is a privilege
Often times I find myself thinking, "What would I hope others would do if I were in that position?"
When I see people post that they are starting something new, making apparel, starting a blog, etc... I try my best to go snag a shirt, comment on the blog, or share/promote what they are doing.
I remember how it felt when I got my first ever apparel order. My first comment. My first view. My first email collected.
It FELT INCREDIBLE.
The cha-ching sound going off on my phone was better than any notification - not because the money (the money was cool) but the thought that you put so much work into something and its literally paying off.
A fellow memer has been creating apparel and I finally got the chance to snag a shirt.
She was nice enough to throw a free shirt into my order and since reading the shirt - I cannot get the quote out of my head.
I fucking love it.
Most may see pressure as something negative.
Something to avoid.
When in reality - pressure is a performance enhancer.
When the pressure is bearing down on you - you are left with choices.
Only 2.
Crumble or perform.
The pressure you're feeling is a gift to expedite your progress.
To advantage of it.
How I've been utilizing Chat Gpt
I've gotten messages over the last few years about how I manage Jiu-jitsu and CrossFit.
Funny enough it took me two years to really find a good balance - and I still get it wrong.
Chat gpt has become a staple in my day. I don't use it as the know all be all but it's great for starting points and ideas.
I gave it a prompt to help me manage my fatigue and output based on my symptoms from both CrossFit and Jiu jitsu.
It asked my goals and what I'd like to get out of each activity.
I'll save the long winded explanation and just show you my CrossFit/Jiu jitsu schedule.
I stick to it about 80% and it's been amazing.
I changed my mind
I originally started the year with the intention to slow down on making videos for @memefortime
My thought was 3 videos a week to give myself some time.
I did it for a month and I got bored.
My new goal is to just post when I have ideas I think are funny.
Maybe everyday. Maybe 3 times a week. Whatever.
Anyway - that's what's been up the last few days.
I have quite a few blog posts in the que - the ideas are flowing.
Please come back if you're enjoying them!

Love your energy and the value you add to the CrossFit space. I don’t mind the pressure at comps where people are rooting for their own teams and focused on them but in the affiliate where everyone knows you is to much for me 🤦🏼♀️😂

Love the passion and energy behind your writing my dude. Also, what in the Joel Seedman is happening here where so many people are being told to limit depth 🤦🏼♂️
